Intense pain: Typically throat pain caused by Strep infection is pretty intense and fairly constant unless you are taking pain relievers like Acetaminophen or ibuprofen. It may also be a virus rather than Strep. If you have other symptoms like a runny nose, coughing, or sneezing it is probably not Strep. High fever, belly pain, headache, and white or yellow spots on the back of a bright red throat may be Strep.
