Depends on severity.: CRVO requires monthly monitoring with a retinal specialist when it first presents. Many patients present with associated macular edema ("swelling of the retina"), which commonly requires treatment. Non-Ischemic CRVO has better visual prognosis than Ischemic (restriction of blood supply) CRVO.
