Mom, Dad..,: I hurt my hand doing something slightly foolish but I need to have it checked out. That might work. You probably need to have it xrayed

Hand bruise: as you think about things--make sure ice is applied as much as possible over the first 48 hours. if pain and swelling persists--you will need an xray. if the middle finger appears straight and not deviated--treatment would be buddy taping to the closest finger. Tell your parents early on rather than late. You will feel glad you confessed your mistake
