Addiction: Ni my experience, xanax (alprazolam) is highly addicting and easily abused because of that. Atarax is considered not addicting and helps with anxiety as well although may not be as fast acting.

Xanax/Atarax: Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine with high potency in treating anxiety especially panic attacks but with high addiction potential. Atarax (vistaril) is an antihistamine with fair benefits for agitation but less addiction potential.
