A member asked:

Are there growth plates in the middle(lengthwise) of the tibia or are they just at the ends?

At the ends: The epiphyseal plate (or epiphysial plate, physis, or growth plate) is a hyaline cartilage plate in the metaphysis at each end of a long bone. These bones grow by the contribution of new bone from the growth plate. The plate is found in children and adolescents, and fuses in adults, so that length does not normally increase after the plates are fused.
