A member asked:

Several small strokes & completely blocked carotid in 58 y/o male. high bp, heart disease, former smoker. how serious is this? surg not an option.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Stroke: Alternative flow through other arteries to the brain are compensating for the completely blocked carotid artery. While there is no surgical option at this time, there are several medical treatments. First, reduce high blood pressure. Stop smoking, reduce cholesterol, exercise, avoid processed foods and sugars, and lose weight if you are obese.
