My nephrologist who specializes in blood pressure, said the new standard is 140/90 for adults. any of you heard this b4? i thought 120/80 was standard

Target blood pressur: target BP control is different for different patients. In the absence of other medical problems (such as heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, etc) the target for adults is below 140/90. In the presence of either of those conditions the target is generally below 130/80.

Hypertension: The newest Joint National Commission guidelines state that for individuals less than 60 years old, treatment should be initiated when BP is greater than 140/90 consistently, after all non-drug interventions are implement, like low salt, weight loss, stop smoking, etc. And, target BP is about 130/80 for the hypertensive individual now, though this is a discretion. Over treatment is a stated concern
