Not really: Very rarely, such as in emergencies or specific types of pancreatic cancer. The pancreas is responsible for producing major hormones involved in sugar regulation and digestion- removal would take away all of these hormones. The pancreas is also located very close to major blood vessels and vital organs, making the surgery difficult.

Safety improved: Surgery to remove the pancreas has improved dramatically with respect to the danger of the surgery. Quoted mortality (death) due to the surgery is around 2%. There is an independent risk related to whatever disease necessitates the surgery, and there are a variety of health-related effects that come from removing the pancreas (it produces Insulin and other things). Talk with your doctors.
