A member asked:

What can you tell me about the tumor necrosis factor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cytokine: Tumor necrosis factor was a cytokine first isolated from macrophages and CD4 cells in response to understanding how Coley's toxin worked. It was felt to be the factor that induced destruction of malignancies but when sequenced proved to be the same molecule as cachexin, a chemical produced by tumor like pancreatic cancer that induced cachexia in patients.
