if i test positive for group strep b and can't make it to hospital in time for birth would a water birth be safe.

NO: First, why can't you make it to the hospital? Moms that are GBS positive need antibiotic treatment to prevent transmission to newborn- GBS infection can cause pneumonia, meningitis and death. A baby of an untreated mom should be watched carefully after birth for signs of GBS infection.
