A member asked:

Rx'd vit d 50,000 units weekly x 12 wks, but i don't know level. is 12 wks standard prescription or do you have to be really low to take it that long!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vit D treatment: There are several regimens for increasing Vit D levels. One is 50,000 units weekly for 6 weeks, and then rechecking the level. 12 weeks is a bit long, but if your original Vit D was very low, or if you have GI malabsorption, it may be needed. It is unlikely you'll get Vit D toxic after 12 weeks.
