A member asked:

My 9-month-old tested positive for strep. after 5 days of fever on 1 anabiotic we switched to another yesterday but she still has a fever. what to do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fever @ 9 mos: The presence of Strep does not necessarily indicate that it is the cause of infection. Many are asymptomatically colonized. Antibiotics do not so much treat Strep, as they prevent acute rheumatic fever due to Strep, and despite antibiotic one may remain ill. The question here is whether the diagnosis is correct, and if not, what else may be going on. See a pediatric infectious diseases expert.
