A member asked:

Are all doctors aware of what aldactone (spironolactone) does? i read it balances hormones while in perimenopuase. it does many things though from what i've read.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Aldactone (spironolactone): Aldactone, (spironolactone) a brand name for a synthetic steroidal antimeinerralocorticoid agent. It is used mainly as a diuretic, saving potassium in heart failure, hypertension and cirrhosis. It has some anti-androgen effect yet it is NOT used to treat hormonal disorders in general. Do not believe in every thing you read.
