Colitis: Mono with associated hepatitis may have caused a temporary irritable bowel syndrome with cramps and loose stools. If the liver is severely inflamed, urine turns Brown and stools become clay colored. Avoid harsh roughage and try kaopectate (kaolin and pectin) as needed for diarrhea. Abdominal symptoms: A little liver failure? - what's that? Mono usually doesn't produce liver failure. It may cause some liver enlargement, which is not that common is usually asymptomatic and mild. Your abdominal symptoms including diarrhea are less likely related to mono and there should be another cause. Unfortunately, you didn't provide more information and thus it's impossible to go further.
