He might be: Depending on the severity and length of your habit, there are medications any physician can prescribe (clonidine, Bentyl, Lomotil (diphenoxylat and atropine) etc.) that can block the symptoms of opiate withdrawal. Some physicians are licensed to prescribe SUboxone/Subutex (buprenorphine) which, like methadone, can help you detox comfortably, and can be prescribed out of his office. You still need counseling with this.
