A member asked:

Docs, wanted to know if i can get lyssa virus after drinking from a water fountain that was underneath some trees?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rabies transmission : Rabies is contracted from the animal bite of an infected mammal. About one in 1000 human cases is from an animal scratch-- since animals sometimes lick their paws, and saliva is the infectious material. Rabies virus cannot survive outside of an animal - so u can't get it from a drinking fountain. There are "occult" rabies exposures -usually bat scratches that are not reported: 1 in 100 million
