A member asked:

Wondering is it possible for pap smear cultures to come back negative, but positive for trichomoniasis?

Yes: Trichomoniasis is highly contagious. It is a separate disease from chlamydia, gonorrhea, or bacterial vaginitis which all can test negative in cases of trichomonas infection. Thankfully it is easily treated with antibiotics.

YES: The pap smear is for cancer cells, but the trichomonas organism may also be present. So - NEG pap, no cancer cells AND POSITIVE for trichomonas
