A member asked:

Does smoking affect the rise of my sgpt? last 2 months it was 164.5. and i checked it today, it was 234.33. can silymarin capsules help lower it down?

Smoking should not: have any effect of which I am aware. The most important question is the source of the elevated ALT, which statistically speaking is likely hepatitis C or alcohol, or the combination, although there are hundreds of other causes. Silymarin, while widely promoted, lacks evidence of effectiveness in several randomized controlled trials, but couldn't hurt. If its hep C, GET TREATMENT. Alcohol? - STOP
