Coughing up red?: If the coughing is not chronic, it is likely you have a respiratory infection which is making you cough up phlegm, which can be blood tinged depending upon the degree of inflammation. If the amount of cough is significant and it is not subsiding, then a check up is warranted, to rule out other causes such as Bronchitis, pneumonia, some heart conditions or TB, which can cause blood in sputum.
