No. : In studies comparing behavioral treatment to medications in children with adhd, the medications have been way more effective than behavioral treatments. Ensuring that the child gets adequate sleep, limiting his/her exposure to tv and other media may eliminate some factors that worsen adhd symptoms, but is not likely to eliminate the symptoms.

Depends on variables: Some kids have milder problems and will respond to reduction of controllable distractions and counseling.All affected kids need some counseling to deal with their social and behavioral interactions. Yet most of the younger patients will need more. Self control is often more successful in the older kid who wants to come off meds.
