May be positive: A false negative test means the patient actually is positive for some abnormality, even though the test showed it was negative. You should call your doctor to see if you need a repeat pap smear to confirm the results.

Abnormal: To say that a test is a false negative, signifies that your positive test was incorrectly reported as negative. You need to see your physician for further testing, including a colposcopy.
