It depends: After a patient is diagnosed with a blood clot that is unexplained for example your doctor would perform an age appropriate work-up for other possible causes of blood clots, also depending on your age and family history it would be appropriate to order other specific tests to establish risk of recurrence. The list of tests can be extensive and costly on the patient.
