A member asked:

Can you tell me how the diagnosis would be made whether a stroke was caused by hemorrhage or other cerebral infraction (thrombus/embulus)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CT or MRI : A Brain CT scan would show if there is a brain hemorrhage but it does not show other causes of stroke well soon after it occurs. A brain MRI is the best test to see stroke soon after it occurs and show if caused by blood spillage or lack of blood flow. It can also show how long ago a stroke happened (new vs. old)
