Implants: Implants are covered to allow the bone to grow around them and this is usually a few weeks to months. Once the bone is strong then the implant can be restored with teeth. Sometimes this process can take longer before the implant is uncovered. If an implant is not uncover d it will stay in the bone and nothing will happen.

Integration: Generally speaking, dentists like to keep dental implant fixtures uncovered for about 3-4 months on the lower jaw and 4-6 months on the upper jaw before they are restored with crowns or other restorations. However, leaving them in longer or indefinitely without being restored poses no problems.
