Planks & Crunches: Crunches and planks both work your core muscles. Planks use more muscles overall than crunches. These two core exercises use different types of muscle contractions, which can shape the muscles differently. Novices with core weakness or joint limitations may struggle attempting the plank more than the crunches initially. There are benefits and difficulties with both crunches and planks.
