At risk: You are right about Lansoprazole possible side effect. Chronic usefof PPI all carry that risk. If your reflux or heartburn symptoms are not occurring daily, then daily use of PPI may not be needed. If you do need to take a PPI daily, you may need to take another medicine to manage osteoporosis. Please consult your doctor for that.

PPI and calcium: Hi. Yes, taking a PPI (e.g., lansoprazole) does impair calcium absorption. Iron too. Make sure you're getting enough calcium and vitamin D (often requires supplements). If you need treatment for osteoporosis, there are great drugs out there shown to reduce fracture risk! Get weight-bearing exercise, avoid falls. Good luck!
