It depends: We are all biologically unique, so just as there is no single best drug for sleep there is no single best herb. Valerian is more popular and safer but Kava will be better for some- the only way to find what is best for you is to try both. Depends: Herbs and vitamins are similar to medications in that none works for all. It is more a question of which helps you and which doesnt. Unfortunately, that comes down to trial and error. There is also Melatonin, Tryptophan, and Lobelia to name a few other substances that are often helpful. While the medications work 'better", they have more side effects and some are addicting
