Lexapro (escitalopram) for anxiety: Lexapro, or escitalopram, is an SSRI, that is commonly and effectively prescribed to treat many types of anxiety disorders. It is generally well tolerated. The best way to know which treatment will be best for your symptoms and goals is to review your specific symptom profile with your doc, and discuss available med & talk tx options, to arrive at the best treatment plan for you.

Generally, Yes: Several studies show Lexapro (escitalopram) to be effective in relieving symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Doses studied were 10mg/day and 20mg/day. For some, Lexapro (escitalopram) was more effective than Diazepam. Since there are many types of anxiety, Lexapro (escitalopram) may or may not be helpful for you. I recommend a discussion w/your prescribing physician as to the pros and cons of Lexapro (escitalopram) vs Diazepam.
