A member asked:

Can a child catch strep throat from a pet cat or pet dog?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Most likely no: The most common bacteria that causes strep throat is called group a streptococcus (gas). It is almost always spread from humans to humans. There have been a small number of research studies which have examined whether dogs can spread gas to humans; the results were conflicting but it is generally believed that if dogs can spread gas to humans it is a very rare occurrence.
