Postpartum depress: Post partum depression can occur immediately or up to a year after the birth of a child. If untreated, can last for years. Although companion animals can help many people with mental disorders, the extra demands of taking care of an animal in addition to your new baby could possibly make you feel worse. See your obstetrician ASAP for evaluation and treatment.

See your doctor.: postpartum depression (depression after you deliver), is pretty common but it can be serious especially if you had depression before pregnancy. The big hormone shift aggravates it and makes it hard to enjoy your baby. There is treatment. Please talk to your doctor or obstetrician first. There's nothing wrong with a pet but it is unlikely to solve the real issue.
