Possibly: glomus tumors under the nail bed are blue appearing lesions caused by blood vessels that when placed under cold water enhance their pain. They can be confused with a traumatic episode to the nail bed where a small hematoma forms. Where the glomus does not usually enlarge, a hematoma does and when of concern can be partially drained by opening a paper clip, heating one end and penetrating the nail
