1 simple tip-: count to 10 before acting on an urge to impulsively harm someone physically or emotionally. Reduce anger by deep breathing. Breath in deeply & slowly through the nostrils. Hold air in lungs for 5 count before slowly exhaling through an open mouth. Repeat until you cool your jets. Focus on your breathing not what is making you angry. Listen with love.: I see that you are 51, so your dad is over 70. Listen, first. Eye contact. "I, see." Show him that you respect him, love him, validate and acknowldege what he is saying, by reflecting "I hear you saying that..." At this age, he is not likely to change. Validate his right to have an opinion, even if you do not agree. Be confident in who you are, not defensive. Let his opinion roll off.
