A lot: Each person has a different tolerance level for pain. The pain caused by a piercing depends on body location. Ear lobe piercings are usually tolerable. Piercings through cartilage hurt more.

Septal piercing: DON'T DO IT. It isn't worth it. It puts you at risk for infections and discomfort.
