Cataract & General: If there is a risk a patient will move during surgery, become disoriented, confused, move their head, or if surgery is particularly risky general anesthesia is recommended. If the cataract is "low risk", the patient can stay still & lie flat & can understand directions easily, local/topical anesthesia can be performed.
