A member asked:

Having cataract surgery soon, when does the doctor do the iol calculations and how important are they? also if i wanted intermediate iol power, how is that done? i would like to see some distance and close vision with a monofocal lense. thanks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Before surgery: IOL measurements, done prior to surgery are critical in selection of the proper implant. A monofocal implant will give good vision at one distance only, distance, intermediate OR near. If lens for intermediate, your distant and near vision will not be clear without glasses. Yes, you will see some, but will not be great. Suggest talking to your surgeon and have REALISTIC expectations.
