Heart transplantatio: Heart transplantation requires that the patient be on lifetime anti-rejection medications. These have various side effects including infections, diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension and other problems associated with them. It is possible to live a good length of life after transplant but on the average survival time is somewhat less than a normal life span.
