Re-treatment: About 5% of the time, a root canal will become re-infected or fail. Even if a root canal treatment fails, there are few options available: root canal re-treatment or apicoectomy (root surgery). Your dentist may elect to send you to a root canal specialist for re-treatment. Good luck.
