What do you recommend if i had a nasty smoker's cough going on. if i quit smoking for a month or two, will my lung function improve?

It will stabilize: When you quit smoking there will be stabilization of your declining lung function. It will not worsen with an accelerated rate if you did not quit. Often a smokers cough will markedly improve with time away from smoking.
