A member asked:

Daughter had no bacteria in her urine but it was sent out cuz there was still some in it can a urine culture tell whether this is affecting the kidney?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: A urine culture only tells you if there is bacteria in the urine. If there is, it could be confined to just the bladder and not at all affecting the kidneys. However, a positive culture does not exclude kidney involvement either. Doc will be looking at whether there is protein in urine and blood work of BUN and creatinine to see if kidneys involved.
