Where?: If this is truly on the surface of the tongue, it is probably a viral infection or reaction to a food. Try Ambesol or similar product as needed if it is sore. Avoid salty, sour, or very hot foods for the next week or so. If no improvement, see your doctor. If the area is in the floor of the mouth it could be a salivary gland infection. Same treatment, but if no improvement may need antibiotic
