Pilates: you need to invest time in core-stregnthening exercises. this will make your back stronger and protect it from injury. A good pilates program involves core strengthening. The physical therapy you do after surgery is very important! The surgery will not be effective if you don't get it to heal properly. Ask your PTist to give you list of exercises you can do at home to help.
