Tincture of time: May take a few days to resolve. Should be improving every day. If not, check in with the Dentist or Endodontist that did your treatment.

Be patient 7-10 days: During the root canal therapy a lot of collateral tissue (gums, nerves, muscles) damage is done. The swelling is a symptom of the affected tissue inflammation. Over the counter medications (Aleeve, Advil) for a few days will ameliorate the pain and swelling. If concerned? Call your dentist for post-op exploration.
