Hearing loss: Although the question should more appropriately be what causes tinnitus, the best answer to give you is that in some patients at the beginning of their awareness of the sound in the ear, they become depressed, anxious and unhappy. Tinnitus does not cause anything else. But the presence of tinnitus, particularly, unilateral tinnitus rarely can be associated with an acoustic tumor.
