Good question: spinal a needle injects medicine into spinal canal to numb you and is then removed. Epidural a catheter is placed in a space between the spinal canal and an outer layer (not into the canal). Medicine is injected into it to numb you. It can be left in place after your surgery to help with pain control. Both carry some risk/benefits so be sure to discuss with your OB and Anesthesia Specialist
