Simple responses: Dementia can be mild, mod or severe. It means a loss of ability to care for one's self without help due to cognitive losses. There are over one hundred causes of dementia with Alzheimer's Disease number one. Stroke, head trauma, B12 and thyroid deficiencies are but a few of the other causes. Having no family hx of dementia does not make you immune to getting demntia. Get annual memory checks.
