Inflammation of carotid arteries. i have pain in the right side of my neck. i was told there was nothing that can be done except antinflamatory meds.

Well, yes: cannot say in your particular case without direct exam. AND large vessel autoimmune diseases are treated with high dose steroids. High dose steroids are effective in large vessel disease. Other therapies (anti-rejection drugs, monoclonal antibodies) are being evaluated and likely to be helpful, but are not known definitely to work yet.
