A member asked:

If i have been using synthroid (thyroxine) for years and it isn't working, should i ask about armour or something not synthetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There is: no such thing as Synthroid (thyroxine) "not working". If you take the proper dose to keep your levels normal, it's working. If you have other problems, they are not due to your hypothyroidism. Synthroid (thyroxine) is an exact duplicate of what your own thyroid makes. Armour thyroid is ground up pig glands that are not standardized, not testable by routine lab and dangerous.
