A member asked:

Does an esi carry the same risks as an epidural in labour? does an esi have more risk when in cervical space? would u choose to do it knowing the risk

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Consider: ESI is indicated to manage known nerve root compression with injection focally delivered at site of problem. Should NOT be used for other painful conditions, and particulate steroids such as Kenalog (triamcinolone) should not be used due to thrombotic risks (see FDA). Would definitely consider that there IS more risk in neck to spinal cord simply due to anatomy. Lastly, would recommend caution, ?2nd opinion.
