Sounds like: Viral infection from your description , did either you had any open sores or blisters when that happened? An examination and a cutler may be needed.

Ask your doctor: There are many conditions associated with pain or discomfort, soreness or burning inside of mouth and swollen gums. It could be toothbrush irritation and/or dental abscess.
