NO BLOOD?: A flush in an IV line does not necessarily have any contact with blood, does it? Heparin flush is put in a sterile environment and the fluid is pushed into the patient not withdrawn from the patient. But, regardless, all medical facilities should have a universal precautions protocol and your health nurse should be working with you to determine if you have any risk.
